The new Sultan Ibrahim Larkin Stadium (pic) in Iskandar Puteri will only be ready in July next year.
The construction of the new home ground of the Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) football team is delayed by six months due to a few adjustments in the stadium's design. The stadium was initially expected to be completed in January 2018.
"Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim wants to ensure direct sun to the football pitch for healthy grass growth. The completion will be delayed by six months to ensure that the contractor is not being rushed to complete it as Tunku Ismail wants the best out of the stadium, said the statement on the Southern Tigers' official website yesterday.
The stadium will accommodate 35,000 to 40,000 fans with an administrative office, cafe and a megastore.
JDT will continue to play at the 30,000 capacity Larkin Stadium in this season's M-League. The three-time Super League champions are unbeaten at home for the past three seasons.
The new season is scheduled to begin on Jan 20.
