KUALA LUMPUR: A 'Datin' was today charged at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court with the attempted murder of her Indonesian maid.
The crime allegedly took place at the employer's home in Mutiara Damansara last week.
Rozita Mohamad Ali, 43, was accused of using a kitchen knife, a clothes hanger, mop handle and umbrella, grievously injuring the maid.
Rozita however pleaded not guilty to the charge, which was read out to her in front of judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam.
Based on the charge, Rozita was accused of committing the act against Suyanti Sutrinso, 19, causing her multiple injuries including to her eyes, hands and feet and internal organs.
Other injuries include blood clots underneath her scalp, and broken bones.
She was accused of committing the crime at Jalan PJU 7/30, Mutiara Damansara, between 7am and 12pm on Dec 21.
The charge falls under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which provides for lifetime imprisonment or 20 years jail, or even the death penalty, if found guilty.
The court granted Rozita a RM20,000 bail with one surety, with an additional condition that she cannot approach the witness during the course of the trial.
Rozita is also required to report to the nearest police station once a month. Her passport must be surrendered to the court until the trial is over.
The court fixed Feb 7 for mention.
Last Wednesday, the maid was found by a security guard at noon, next to a drain and suffering from various injuries. The guard alerted a resident who then brought the maid to a nearby clinic.
